SNS interview Yung Kazi

In times like this, it's the community that gives us the power to keep grinding, and Crenshaw's own artist Kazi is exactly what we are craving. The young creative tells his story through clay, sculpturing comic-like characters and toys that speak the LA-native tongue. From videos to bold statements, Kezi is a true multi-talented artist that needs your attention, because, well, he is that good. Check out the SNS interview with him below and peep the Nike Air Max 95s on his feet, because you can get them here.

SNS: What’s your name?

Kazi: My name Is Jordan, but I go by Kazi as my artist name.

Where are you from?

I’m from the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles just off of Crenshaw and Slauson.

*When and why did you start creating with Clay/Claymation? *

I got into claymation very accidentally I would say. It started because I had a song I was about to put out named toy and was thinking of a clever cover art to match. I had always loved the PJ’s and Crashbox and Old Michael Jackson videos featuring claymation so I went to Michaels, bought some clay, and made myself as a clay character. It turned out pretty fire and then my homie suggested we try to animate it. Which resulted in the Toy music video.

How long have you been into creating things with Clay?

I’d say it’s going on two years now.

How did you hear about Sneakersnstuff?

I was actually on the hunt for these Neighborhood X Clarks that I couldn’t find anywhere and I ended up stumbling across them on the site.

What started your sneaker obsession?

I think it was the fact that when I was a kid I didn’t really have it like that to have a bunch of kicks. I was happy with a pair of Vans honestly but I always had taste and wanted sick shoes even though I couldn’t always afford em. So when I got older it was just like welp now I got it so ima get it.
