Home to the golden age of superficiality, Los Angeles has a deeply rooted history of sportsmanship, which could easily be overlooked by glittery signs, but shaped the way for blockbuster trades including Adrián González or shrewd three-team trades which brought the last World Series title in 1988. And after a bitter-sweet ending of previous year’s finals appearance, which they rather often do, the LA Dodgers rep one of the most famous logos of all time, the interlocking LA. There is a fun fact, the LA Dodgers blue cap with white lettering has always been the same, even when they were based in Brooklyn (sporting a “B,” evidently). Taking a look at the logo, and with the move from New York to Los Angeles, the team’s sporting goods manufacturer was asked to give the PR team a suggestion on how the logo could look like. By scribbling his idea of an interlocked LA onto a letter on November 11th, 1957, he came up with one of the most iconic graphics ever to be created. However, he got inspired by another LA-based team in the 1920s, the Los Angeles Angels, a Pacific Coast League minor league team. The same squad filled the blank slate on the LA baseball map around of the turn-of-the-century in 1892.

Which brings us to another (slightly more contemporary) notable Angel-themed team from Los Angeles, this time the Anaheim-based Los Angeles Angels. Today’s LA Angeles’ franchise was established in 1961, kicking of the Freeway Series rivalry a year later, when the Dodgers and Angels clashed for the first time in Palm Springs. With the team’s inception, the first edition of the logo was rather similar to the interlocking LA logo, but with a defining edge. Through the years, while the LA Angels’ logo progressed, one overarching analogy stands out, the holy halo, from topping the Cali-map or wings-baseball, as well as surviving the three name changes, from California Angels to Anaheim Angels and finally Los Angeles Angels, the halo stays of vast importance.

To pay homage to the legendary teams, and also to make you qualify as royalty of headwear, we have now released these two New Era caps, fun aside – we are happy to call Los Angeles our home finally, and this is just a small gesture to say “thank you.”
